"Feast in the Middle East" in El Paso

Not too long ago, I attended an event on the Westside of El Paso called "Feast in the Middle East", which is organized by an Orthodox church on Festival street.  This was the second year I attended, and was pleased to enjoy it as much as the previous year.  The event consisted of a plethora of food from various Middle Eastern countries that include gyros, greek salads, rice, lamb and chicken kabobs, and many desserts that are out of this world.  The music and entertainment included belly dancers, singers, and several shows with dances from various countries, as well as art sellers and merchandisers.

I would say that this has been an eye opening experience for me because although I had experienced foods and met people from these countries, I had never seen such a lively event here in El Paso.  I was also surprised to see mostly people of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, or Asian descent there, and only a few Hispanics or Mexican-descent attendees.  It made me wonder if people are actually open to attending those events here in El Paso, and the implications to market this to perhaps a different segment of the city.  Perhaps this is something that can be researched, and as the population shifts in this area it will become more important to take a more proactive approach to these events.

Just my thoughts for the day...
